Agartala, April 29: The Tripura unit of the Youth Congress staged a protest in front of the Tripura State Cooperative Bank’s head office in Agartala on Monday.
The demonstration was organized in opposition to the bank’s decision to hold its recruitment examination outside the state.
The protesters voiced concerns over the lack of adequate infrastructure within Tripura to accommodate the large number of candidates who have applied for the vacancies.
With approximately 19,000 applicants vying for just 156 vacancies within the bank, tensions escalated when the bank announced on April 23 that the initial examination would be held outside Tripura.
Youth Congress president Neelkamal Saha, leading the protest, criticized this decision, stating that in the initial notification of the bank nowhere it is mentioned that the exam shall be conducted outside the state and moreover, it will impose additional financial burdens on the state’s unemployed youth and their families.
Attacking the state government on its claims of development, Saha emphasized the disparity between the government’s claims of development, including Agartala’s designation as a smart city, and the apparent lack of infrastructure even to support essential processes such as recruitment examinations.
Furthermore, he raised allegations against the bank’s authority, including its chairman, suggesting motives of corruption and favoritism in selecting candidates if the examination were to be conducted outside Tripura.
The protest saw participants rallying against the bank’s authority and its chairman, demanding that the examination be held within the state to ensure fairness and accessibility for all applicants.
