Agartala, April 28: In connection with the Champkanagar shooting incident, a young man named Rabindra Debbarma has been arrested. Debbarma, a resident of Khulmulung, was apprehended by Champkanagar police after an interrogation that led to the discovery of two magazines, three rounds of fresh cartridges, and a pistol.
According to Jiranagar police officials, on the day of the Garia Puja, Rabindra Debbarma, along with three accomplices, visited the house of Champkanagar resident Chiranjit Debnath. An argument ensued over an unspecified issue, escalating into a physical altercation. When Chiranjit’s family members intervened, Rabindra Debbarma brandished a pistol and fired shots. He then fled the scene with his accomplices.
While no one sustained injuries from Rabindra Debbarma’s shooting, Chiranjit Debnath was assaulted by the group. On April 15, Chiranjit Debnath filed a written complaint with Champkanagar police, naming Rabindra Debbarma and his accomplices.
Acting on a tip-off, Champkanagar police subsequently arrested the main accused, Rabindra Debbarma, from his Khulmulung residence on the night of April 26. He was produced in court on Saturday, seeking a three-day police remand, which the court granted.
During rigorous interrogation in police custody, authorities recovered the pistol used in the incident, along with three rounds of bullets and two magazines, near Rabindra Debbarma’s Khulmulung residence late Saturday night. However, the motive behind the incident remains undisclosed.
