Agartala, April 10: As the holy month of Ramadan comes to an ends, vermicelli manufacturers in Tripura are witnessing a surge in demand, with workers dedicating extra hours to meet the needs of the season.
Muslims in the region prepare special delicacies, notably vermicelli or ‘Sewian,’ to share with guests during Eid, marking the conclusion of Ramadan.
Sewian holds a significant place in Ramadan traditions and experiences heightened popularity as individuals break their fasts with this sweet treat.
While traditionally prepared at home, vermicelli is now readily available in the market, catering to the increased demand during Ramadan.
Dayananda Food Products Industries, situated in Nagicherra, 14 km east of Agartala, specializes in vermicelli production, alongside papad.
Partha Datta, the unit’s manager, acknowledges the surge in orders during Ramadan, with workers tirelessly fulfilling demands to meet the festive season’s requirements.
Empowering women through employment opportunities, the unit currently employs over twelve women, in addition to ten men, all dedicated to producing vermicelli for Eid celebrations.
Malina Das, a worker at the unit, affirms the year-round demand for sewain, but demand for it particularly amplifies during Eid festivities and so they are working extra hours to fetch the demand.
