Agartala, March 17: Following the Election Commission of India’s announcement of the 18th Parliamentary election schedule, the CPIM-led Left Front has declared Rajendra Reang as the INDIA alliance candidate for the East Tripura ST-reserved Lok Sabha seat.
This announcement follows the Bharatiya Janata Party’s declaration of Biplab Kumar Deb as their candidate for the West Tripura Parliamentary constituency.
Rajendra Reang, the Left Front candidate, is a CPIM state committee leader and a former MLA from Kanchanpur assembly constituency.
In a press conference at the CPIM state headquarters, Tripura Left Front convener Narayan Kar highlighted the challenges posed by communal forces in the current political situation.
He emphasized the need to address issues such as economic disparity and unemployment, while defending the secular, federal structure of the country.
Jitendra Chaudhary, Tripura CPIM secretary, outlined plans for collaboration with Congress and other local parties to counter the BJP in the upcoming elections.
He criticized the TIPRA Motha party for its alliance with the BJP and appealed to disillusioned supporters to join the INDIA alliance.
Chaudhary also raised concerns about corruption within the state government and accused BJP leaders of involvement.
He expressed disappointment with the BJP-led government’s performance since coming to power in 2018.
The Left Front leaders called for transparency and fairness in the electoral process, urging the Election Commission to prevent rigging and misconduct.
They emphasized the importance of upholding democratic principles in the face of growing challenges.
