Agartala, February 17: In a significant development, three individuals hailing from Maharashtra were apprehended at the Agartala rail station on Saturday, informed Ubaidur Rehaman, officer in-charge of the Agartala GR Police Station.
The trio, poised to board the Kanchenjunga Express train en route to Sealdah in Kolkata, was found in possession of a substantial sum of ₹9.56 lakh in cash.
Upon discovery of the cash, authorities swiftly intervened, seizing the amount and detaining the three individuals for further interrogation.
Rehaman added that following thorough questioning, the suspects would be handed over to the Income Tax department for further investigation into the source and purpose of the seized funds.
This incident comes on the heels of a recent cash seizure from the same express train just two days prior.
At Dharmanagar station in North Tripura district, authorities uncovered an unclaimed sum of ₹66.57 lakh, sparking concerns over potential illicit activities or attempts at money laundering through rail networks.
As investigations unfold, authorities remain vigilant in their efforts to combat financial crimes and uphold the integrity of the railway system.
The apprehension of individuals with large sums of unaccounted cash underscores the importance of stringent enforcement measures to deter illegal activities and ensure the safety and security of passengers and railway infrastructure.
