Agartala, December 20:As the controversy surrounding the delisting of religiously converted tribals from the scheduled cast category in Tripura has escalated, with the Janajati Suraksh Manch planning a rally on Christmas Day in Agartala, after opposition parties opposing the rally, a Minister of the BJP-IPFT government on Wednesday expressed concerns about potential communal violence in the state.
Tribal Welfare (Primitive Tribal Groups) and Minority Minister Sukla Charan Notia voiced his apprehensions on Wednesday, suggesting that “micro organizations or a few NGOs might be behind the demand, aiming to disrupt the existing peace in the state.“
Speaking to reporters in the sideline of a programme of distributing job offers in Agartala, Notia expressed his confidence that Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha will address the matter and prevent any disturbance to the peace that Tripura has enjoyed since the BJP-IPFT government assumed power in 2018.
Minister Notia clarified that neither the Prime Minister, the Chief Minister, nor the BJP party has officially demanded or issued any notification regarding the delisting of converted STs.
He accused certain organizations of raising the issue solely to disturb the peace in the state.
Notia, the lone MLA of the BJP partner IPFT, expressed full confidence in Chief Minister Manik Saha’s leadership.
He believes that Saha, also the Home Minister of the state, will take necessary actions to prevent Tripura from returning to the turbulent days experienced before the BJP-IPFT government came to power in 2018.
It maybe added here that only a day ago Opposition Leader Animesh Debbarma had written a letter to the Chief Minister urging him to disallow the JSM rally on Christmas Day with apprehension of it igniting communal tensions, however, when the CM was asked about this he preferred not to comment.
