Agartala, Dec 11:In a firm stance against the rising threat of drug peddling, Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu appeal on Monday, urging the public to socially boycott drug peddlers whom he deemed as ‘anti-nationals.’
Governor Reddy Nallu emphasized that the alliance between Indian drug peddlers in Tripura and smugglers from Myanmar and Bangladesh posed a severe threat, engaging in clandestine and illegal drug activities that dangerously harm the residents of northeastern states.
He insisted that immediate measures should be taken to curb this alliance between Indian and foreign nationals involved in drug peddling and smuggling.
Addressing the media at Raj Bhavan after attending Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s virtual address to Vice Chancellors of Universities across the country.
Governor Reddy Nallu, a former BJP leader from Telangana, expressed concern that despite efforts by the police and various law enforcement agencies, curbing dangerous drug trafficking would remain a challenge unless those associated with the illicit cross-border drug trade severed their ties.
Emphasizing the importance of social awareness, the Governor called on people from all walks of life to unite against illegal drug trade and related activities.
He declared drug peddling as a crime against the nation.
Governor Reddy Nallu shared insights into Tripura’s future connectivity, stating that the Agartala-Akhaura railway project and the construction of the “Maitri” setu (bridge) between Tripura and Bangladesh had been completed, paving the way for railway and road connections with Bangladesh and which will open new avenues transforming Tripura into the gateway for the country.
