Agartala, December 2: Tripura government has once again increased the price of paddy purchase from farmers at minimum support price. 80 thousand metric tons of paddy will be purchased from the farmers of Tripura from December 11 at minimum support price. Paddy will be purchased at the rate of Rs 21.83 paisa per kg. Food Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said this at a press conference at the Secretariat today.
On this day Chowdhury said that a virtual meeting was held today in the conference hall of the Secretariat under the joint initiative of the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and the Department of Food Public Procurement and Consumer Affairs and the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. In that meeting, it was unanimously decided that 80 thousand metric tons of paddy will be purchased at the minimum support price of Rs 21.83 per kg in the current kharif season from December 11. The sale of paddy will be started at 89 paddy buying centers across the state in a phased manner.
On this day, he also said that the government has set a target to complete the process of purchasing paddy in the entire state by January 31. Paddy is purchased directly from the farmers every year to benefit the farmers.
In a press conference today, Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath said that since the formation of the BJP-led government in Tripura in 2018, a historic decision was taken to double the income of farmers in the state. Paddy is procured twice a year from farmers at minimum support price. Tripura government has once again increased the price of paddy purchase from farmers at the minimum support price this year.
According to him, the only objective of the state government is to increase the income of the farmers of Tripura and ensure that the farmers get a fair price for their paddy. The state government has purchased 1 lakh 79 thousand 219 metric tons of paddy from 91 thousand 377 farmers from 2018-2022. He said that Rs 342 crore 34 lakh have credited to the farmers account.
