Agartala: Nov 27: This time the airport is being used to smuggle cannabis. Airline workers are also involved in smuggling. On Sunday evening, based on a tip-off, two persons were arrested by the airport police from MBB airport.
Narrating the incident, SDPO Parmita Pandey said that the airport police had secret information that the MBB airport would be used to smuggle cannabis outside the state. Based on that news, a large police force led by Airport Police Station OC Abhijit Mondal reached MBB Airport on Sunday evening. There, the police recovered 20 kg of dry cannabis after searching the bag of a person named Sudip Debbarma. Besides, the police arrested another person named Nelson Jamatia on the charge of assisting in this smuggling. The police have started an investigation with a case against them under the NDPS section.
The SDPO said the accused Nelson Jamatia was working in Indigo Airlines as executive security. He lives in Abhaynagar area of the capital. On the other hand, Sudip Debbarma’s house is in Sidhai area. The police official said that the market value of recovered ganja will be approximately Rs 2 to 3 lakh. Meanwhile, the police officer handed over them to the court and applied for police remand. SDPO Parmita Pandey said, it is believed that several others may be involved in this work. As a result, more information will come out about their remand. In a place like an airport with a very tight security ring, such incidents have already started raising questions about the airport’s security system.
