Agartala, October 9 : Like every year, the Department of Posts is celebrating National Postal Week across the country from October 9 today, the celebration will continue till October 13. On this occasion, Joseph Lalwinsailova, Postmaster General of North East-1 region comprising Tripura and Mizoram of Postal Department, said here today that the week is specially observed to create public awareness about the role of postal service in daily life and business. The theme of this year’s Postal Day is Together for Trust.
While informing about various progressive aspects of postal services, he said that parcel hub has been established in Agartala in September this year. Now if any type of parcel is sent from Agartala Post Department to the destination hub, there is direct communication between the two post offices Besides, Speed Post parcels are now being transported quickly to different parts of the country by air.
Special programs have also been taken up during Postal Week to create public awareness about ‘Dakghar Niyat Kendra’, one of the most important initiatives for socio-economic development. The Post Master General said that Dak Ghar Niyat Kendra has worked in all district headquarters post offices of the region. Tripura has such centers at Agartala, Radhakishorpur, Sonamura, Bilonia, Dharmanagar, Kailashahar, Ambasa and Khoai Post Office. Mizoram has ‘Post Office Dedication Centres’ in Aizawl, Champai, Lunglei, Mamit and Siyaha towns. About the various programs to be observed this week, he said, October 10 will be celebrated as Swashaktikaran Day. Postal Community Development Program will be held at Shantirbazar Town Hall under the leadership of Superintendent of Post Office on that day. Philately Day will be celebrated on October 11. On Philately Day, various schools will participate in national level campaigns on Digital India for New India, Stamp Design, and Quiz etc. Mail and Parcel Day will be celebrated on October 12. The program will be held with state government representatives and traders and exporters. A workshop will also be organized among post masters and delivery staff to strive for 100 per cent delivery of parcels to customers on the same day of receipt at post offices in the region. Antyodaya Day will be celebrated on October 13. Workshops will be organized in rural and underdeveloped areas to promote digital transactions and financial literacy on Antyodaya Divas.
During these days of Postal Week celebrations, an initiative has been taken to inform the public about recent additions to the services of the Postal Department and their socio-economic and economic impact.
