Agartala, September 4: A high-level delegation of the Airport Authority of India visited the Kailashahar airport this morning. The re-opening of the Kailashahar airport will take place in two phases. On this day, the delegation included officers of operation expert and technical team visited Kailasahar Airport area.
The first phase to reopen the Kailashahar airport will be to refurbish the existing runway to accommodate small aircraft. Officials of Airports of India will come to Kailashahar to visit the airport a few more times in case of re-opening of the airport.
The delegation consisted of 11 representatives including three from Delhi, three from Guwahati and five from Agartala. The delegation included Northeast Region Joint General Manager Debdulal Chowdhury, Joint General Manager Civil Tapas Kumar Dey, AGM Seven Civil Headquarters Manoj Bhardwaj, Senior Manager CNS Divya Jyoti Pal, Chief Security Officer and Land Incharge Agartala SK Roy among others.
It is learned that SpiceJet and Alliance are ready to offer flight services from Kailashahar. However, the absence of small aircraft by Spice Jet allows small aircraft of the alliance to operate on this route. Today the officials of Airport Authority of India first came to the airport and measured the airport area along with the staff of Sub-Divisional Administrator’s Office and Tehsildars. They checked everything from the airport for about three hours. Then around 2:30 PM they left for lunch at Circuit House in Kailashahar. After lunch they sat in a meeting with the District Magistrate in the District Magistrate’s office.
It may be noted that since the establishment of the BJP government in 2018, the current government has been trying to open the Kailashahar Airport.
