Agartala, September 2: Today, Additional Secretary of Bangladesh Railway Ministry Mohammad Yasin, Additional Director General Mohammad Islam, along with other officials, visited the Agartala-Akhaura railway from Gangesagar to zero point on the Indo-Bangla border in a gang car. If this railway is opened, it will be the beginning of a new horizon in terms of trade and commerce between India and Bangladesh.
On this day, before visiting Agartala-Akhaura, a meeting was organized with senior officials of railway department, police, customs, immigration and local prosecution at Gangasagar railway station in Brahmanbaria district of Bangladesh.
In this regard, Chief Engineer of Bangladesh Railway Eastern Region and Director of Akhaura-Agartala Railway Line Construction Project, Abu Zafar Mia said that the work of Agartala-Akhaura railway project is almost at the end. The rest of the work will be completed within the next one week. If this railway service is launched, business and economy in both countries will be improved. There will be a lot of benefit in the field. Various products of the two countries can be imported and exported.
Note that on September 10, 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and MP Biplab Kumar Deb inaugurated the Agartala-Akhaura rail link project through video conference. The Indian contractor Texmeco Rail and Engineering Limited has worked on the project from Gangasagar railway station in Akhaura. This railway starts from Nishintpur in Agartala and joins.
