Agartala, July 22: A tense situation unfolded at the Tripura Cricket Association (TCA) on Saturday as the ongoing infighting between two rival factions escalated dramatically.
Timir Chandra, the vice president of TCA and former captain of the state cricket team, claimed that he was physically assaulted by members of the opposing faction while entering the TCA building, leaving him feeling threatened.
The conflict stems from differences between TCA president Tapan Lodh and secretary Tapas Ghosh.
Ghosh asserted that the lock of the TCA building was opened by the recently removed president, leading to concerns about potential ill intentions and the safety of valuable documents.
The situation worsened as the president’s supporters allegedly broke the lock of the TCA building in the presence of a Sub Division Magistrate, leading to further tensions.
Amidst the turmoil, a general body meeting was conducted where it was decided to conduct an inquiry into the installation of four floodlights at the MBB cricket stadium, which some members claimed had an inflated cost.
However, the president denies any official notification of his removal and argues that his position cannot be revoked due to his age and role as a nominated councillor of the Agartala Municipality Corporation.
The situation remains volatile as both factions continue to vie for control of the cricket association.
