Agartala, June 30: A day after the murder, Tripura police has arrested two suspects on Friday in connection to the alleged lynching of a butcher suspected as a cow lifter at Baldakhal area in the outskirts of Agartala said a police officer.
The deceased identified as one Nandu Sarkar (40) was lynched by a group of youths close to his house on Thursday, on the day of Eid, suspecting him as cow lifter and relative of the victim alleged that the incident occurred in presence of police personnel.
Inspector Rana Chatterjee, officer in-charge of East Agartala police station said, “In connection to the yesterday’s alleged murder case of Nandu Sarkar at Baldakhal we have arrested two persons – Bhaskar Das and Dibakar Das. Their names surfaced along with others during initial investigation and both shall be forwarded to the court with appeal for police remand. We are investigating to find out what happened, the motto behind the murder and who all are involved.”
When asked regarding the actual reason behind the murder, Chatterjee said, “Investigation is underway and the postmortem of the body is ongoing as several names are coming out in the case in which there is an allegation of stealing of a cow but facts shall come out only after the investigation is completed. Now it is just the beginning of the investigation and after getting into police custody and interrogation of those arrested the actual motive of the murder shall be revealed.”
Meanwhile, Sonali Sarkar, wife of the deceased who had lodged a police complaint and urged for justice said that her husband was not a thief and use to work in a meat shop.
She alleged that her husband was beaten by some locals in front of the police and has they taken initiative to stop the goon her husband would have been alive.
