At least four sustained bullet injuries including two jawan of Assam Rifle, during an exchange of fire with suspected Kuki militants at N Boljang Village of Kangpokpi district neighbouring Sangaithel and Tairenpokpi of Imphal West this morning.
The two other injured persons are the Meetei village volunteers from the nearby village. The injured AR personnesl are being hospitalized at a military hospital while the two village volunteers are getting their treatment at RIMS, Imphal.
According to sources, the exchange of firing started at around 4 in the morning while well equipped Kuki militants came down to attack the villages in the peripheral valley regions.
Sources stated that the Kuki militants started the first strike using sophisticated weapons including bombs.
Soon after getting the information about the attack, a joint team of state forces, Gurkha Regiment and Assam Rifles rushed to the stop and retaliate back and exchange of fire went on till 11 am.
As per sources, there is possibility of sustaining casualties and injuries on the side of Kuki militants during the firing, however there is no official confirmation.
To prevent any unwanted incident, the security forces have occupied and taken control of the said area and are keeping a strict vigil.
Local MLA of Lamsang AC, S Rajen also visited the spot and took stock of the prevailing situation.
