Agartala, March 20: GRP detained one person with around 1.5 Kg gold from Agartala rail station while he was about to leave for Guwahati on Monday evening said a senior official of the Government Railway Police (GRP).
Ratna Sadhan Noatia, DSP GRP said, “On the basis of a secret information under the leadership of GRP SP Amitabha Paul, we organized a raid in the Tejas-Rajdhani Express and detained one person with gold weighing 1544 grams and cash Rs 6710.”
He added, “We are going to hand over the seized property to the customs authorities for necessary action. The market price of the gold is around rupees one crore.”
The seized gold was in the form of six biscuits and two bars.
The person was detained just before the train was suppose to leave the Agartala rail station.
The person from whom the gold was recovered has been identified as one Abul Basar, son of Atur Islam and a resident of Sonamura in Sepahijala district of Tripura.
He informed that he was going to Guwahati with the gold.
Further interrogation of Basar is going on.
