Sontang, a small village which falls in the middle of Tripura under Amar Pur, Ampi nagar RD block, PS Tuidu, Gomati Tripura. The village is situated from Teliamura via Hrangkhawl Bazar to 7 km and a distance of 7 km from Tuidu Bazar via Palku ADC village under Ampi nagar. The village is exactly situated between Khowai district and Gomati Tripura. The Sontang village has more than 300 families and approximate population is 1500. Sontang is separated into three villages. As Sontang no 1, Sontang no 2 and Sontang no 3. There are two private schools and two government. The main occupation of the villagers is fisheries, paddy cultivation and gardening.
The Sontang village is sometime called as a forgotten village by the government . In this Golden era Sontang remains to Stone Age in Governmental support . The Village has no proper road connectivity, The Youth and the Villager approach to different concerned departments for their road connectivity and even submitted memorandum to the Secretariat Agartala. The Villager suffers from various road problems and many times highlighted and flashes in some of the social media. The main roads and the sub – roads connecting from the main road to the area are in a very poor condition . There are chances of road accidents every day. Many accidents leading to body injuries has already happened on these roads in the past. And many Students who go to near schools are found late and unable to attend regular classes. There is no appropriate drainage system by the side of the kachha roads which creates water overflow issues in rainy seasons and drainage clogging issues throughout the year. Therefore, in some emergency issues the Young Kaipeng Association of Sontang Branch used to take initiative to repair the road throughout the year by conducting Social works and sacrifice their time in maintaining the roads situation and status. Today on 5 February 2023, on the eve of General Election 2023 of the Legislative Assembly Poll, after hearing from the Local villagers, It has come to learn that, the youth are blamed for blocking the road and not allowing the authority to repair and maintain the road. This was found falsely blame and completely false statement. The Block Development Authority or The RD Department and the Election Surveyor visited the Voting center and have seen the road condition. After a long ignorance to the village road and way to voting center it is found that repairing is not the only solution any more. The road has collapsed and needed a major construction. The Youth leader had said in his statement to leave the main connectivity road which is possible to move and run vehicle in this dry season but to completely construct the road to voting center a distance of 150mtrs only. The road to voting center needs a foot bridge or Box Culvert and major construction. But the departmental Authority from the RD Block will likely skip that portions and do simple repairing to the good condition road quitting the worst portion. As per the report, a hot talk occurs and the youth leaders gave a statement that in this issue, it is useless to repair the exceptional good condition road and also said in his statement that, If the road to voting center is not done, it is better not to repair other portion of the road and stop the works. The question also arise why there is no response in the long years back? Whenever the villagers approach the RD department they only came for repairing for the sake of one day election purpose only. The Villagers felt they are cheated and want to know who’s responsible for that. The RD department always visit during election and made promise for the road construction as earliest possible but till now no result. These issues became a hot topic and the blame games took place between the RD Block department and the villager and the Youth. So here is the highlight picture given to see where the Youth leaders want a repaired and the RD Department ignore. The road shown in the pictures was good before 5yrs back where at least vehicle can pass and people can also go around. Seeing the condition the road RD Block department should take immediate action , before any new issues arise. The innocent villager and the Youth didn’t want to happen any misunderstanding on this election, but wanted a peaceful election to take place as it had been before and after, Whereas the Election Surveyor and the Block Development Office and departmental should earliest solved the problems of the simple road re – construction of a distance of 150mtrs length and if necessary construct emergency foot bridge or box culvert for the benefit of the voters and for the benefit of the villagers for the peaceful Election voting. The remaining road construction repairing may be done even after the election which is still usable for the election.
