Agartala: Dec 31: To improve energy security, quality of supply, efficiency, and resilience of power sector in Tripura, the state signs the biggest ever agreement of Friday informed Tripura’s Power Minister Jishnu Dev Varma today during a press conference in the secretariat.
He added that the historical agreement was signed between the Tripura government’s Power Department and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) which will assist Power Project of Rs 2,275 Crore for Tripura Power Distribution Strengthening and Generation Efficiency Improvement Project.
The Project agreement was signed between Brijesh Pandey, Secretary, Power Department on behalf of Government of Tripura and Nilaya Mitash, Officer-in-Charge of ADB’s India Resident Mission.
The project will support the government of Tripura’s efforts to strengthen its power sector by replacing inefficient power plants and strengthening the distribution by reduced network losses and to meet increasing demand of electricity to boost the state.
Dev Varma, who is also the Finance Minister of the state, accompanied by the power secretary and top official of the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited claimed that this will be the biggest single project in the history of Tripura in any infrastructure sector.
The project will benefit about 5 – 6 lakh consumers through improved power supply and reliability. The project will generate about 6000 – 6500 jobs directly or indirectly in the state.
The project will replace the Rokhia’s existing 63 MW (3X21 MW) Open Cycle power project with a 120 MW Combined Cycle power project which will reduce greenhouse gas emissions through fuel saving.
Moreover, the project will increase the efficiency of Gomati Hydel Power Project through its renovation and modernization beside renovate 27 numbers of 33/11 KV sub-stations, installation of 150000 Smart meters, 582 16 KVA and 547 number 25KVA distribution transformers, etc.
