Agartala: Dec 19: Only a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi had visited Tripura’s capital Agartala and claimed that unlike earlier at present the northeastern state is in discussions and headlines for the rapid development under the double engine BJP government, on Monday opposition CPIM’s women wing All India Democratic Women’s Association took out a rally here on demand of women safety, work, food and other basic demands.
CPIM politburo member and former MP Brinda Karat speaking to NEL said, “Yesterday the PM claimed that now Tripura is discussed across the nation for its development under BJP’s double engine government but we are asking if Modi had spoken with the women of Tripura and enquire about how many gang rapes took place here? How many BJP leaders are involved with crime against women? This should be discussed, how many promises he had made five years back and how many were kept? What his double engine government did for the women of Tripura? At G20 nations meeting he lectured about India is a rich democracy but in Tripura four elections including panchayat, local bodies, Lok Sabha and by-election were held here but the voters were not allowed to cast their vote. It should be discussed and Modi will see the consequences of it in coming election.” She viewed that the government should be ashamed of that even today in India on an average daily 86 women are raped while annually 6000 brides are burned down for dowry and Modi has failed to keep the girl child safe.
The CPIM women leader rose why union Home Minster Amit Shah who is bulldozing everything not applying it again those involved in crime against women? She allegedly that even after ten years since the Rs 6000 crores Nirbhaya Fund was established and for initiatives aiming at enhancing the safety and security of women, the government failed to utilised even one-third of the fund. Karat said that Modi who is promoting fundamentalism can never add to women empowerment and people have to realise that.
She rose why the Modi government which speaks of women empowerment did not push in the business agenda of the lower house of the Parliament for the Women Reservation Bill that promises 33% reservation of seats in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.
The Communist leader allegedly that the Modi government before election make false promises or ‘jumlas’ but never implement them and in Tripura it was not exceptional. She said in the the coming election the main issue that the CPIM shall raise will be the double deprivation of the people of Tripura and by the double engine government under BJP.
The AIDWA rally started from the Paradise Chowmhuni area as the participants with flags raised anti-BJP slogans and went through the streets of the capital city. They also demanded for removal of the BJP government in the state alleging misrule in Tripura during last 56 months.
