Atleast 35 trafficking cases have been registered in the state during the past 22 years when 89 Girls and 6 Boys have been rescued and 64 perpetrators of the crime have been arrested, said Mizoram Home Minister Lalchamliana on Thursday.
He said that human trafficking, which is a global menace, has its presence felt in Mizoram too and is one of the most shameful crimes affecting the lives of many people.
Addressing a one-day conference on Anti-Human Trafficking held in Aizawl, Lalchamliana lauded the performance of Mizoram Police and civil societies in tackling human trafficking cases both in Mizoram and outside the state by following proper legal process to rescue the victims.
“Human trafficking is one of the worst forms of human rights abuse and criminal acts,” he said.State Director General of Police (DGP) Devesh Chandra Srivastava also complimented the CID team for its excellent work in spreading awareness as well as prevention and detection of trafficking cases in Mizoram.
Srivastava pointed out that domestic workers and those going for maid-jobs in hope of better employment in other countries are most vulnerable to exploitation; therefore, job placement agencies and Mizoram Police along with different NGOs need to work together to erase this menace completely.
