Former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar hinted towards CPIM’s role in uniting the Opposition including TIPRA Motha and Congress to give tough fight to the BJP here. He alleged that Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha was making false claim regarding the presence law and order situation and crime against women in Tripura is much better than the Left Front regime today.
Replying to a question on CM Dr Saha’s claim, Sarkar who is the Opposition Leader of the state during a press conference in the CPIM headquarters in Agartala said, “Absolutely wrong, this is not the reality. What has been going on after their inception in the office during last 55 months. It is concocted report. They have been thinking that in that way they will be able to save their faces.”
He added that when victims and their family members are going to police stations to register complaints police is not registering and on the contrary suggesting to sort out the issue through discussion with the perpetrators. He said, “About the crime against women. When mothers, victims and their family members are going to the police station to lodge complaints, they found miscreants were sitting with the police officers and police instead of recording the FIR are rather advising to go back and discuss with the criminals and sort out the problem.”
Sarkar alleged that other than law and order the BJP led government during last 55 months has destroyed the education and health department.“They have totally destroyed the education department and the health department and the government is presenting their performance card to the media. Do they think people are fool and whatever they say people believe. They think that that they shall be able to come back to power again but people on leave them,” said Sarkar, CPIM politburo member. On the question if CPIM led Left Front is going to form pre poll alliance with other parties like TIPRA Motha and Congress though Sarkar avoided giving any clear answer but indicated that an effort is on and only before the election it will get the final shape.
He said, “The election is not only of CPIM or left front, it is of the people of and voters of Tripura who were very angry with this regime. We cannot think leaving them so according to their thoughts in mind and expectations we shall go or not go for any alliance. Our people are bleeding but they have not left the flag or the field. People are also now gradually coming out and openly claiming for their right to exercise their vote, and of course as a party and left front, we shall not hesitate in fulfilling our responsibility.”
On Pradyot Kishore party which at present is the main tribal party in the state the CPIM top leader said, “TIPRA Motha has to decide with whom they are going to form alliance. We cannot speak for them. We are united as left front and during last one and half month we are appealing to the secular democratic parties of Tripura to come together and raise our voices against this attacks on democracy and seizing of people’s right to expression.”
He added, “Some initiatives have been taken for this but till now the situation is not that we can claim that the response has been very satisfactory as of yet. During election who will go with whom that will be clear only when the time comes for polling.”On the pre poll alliance Sarkar also added that during the last party congress of CPIM, it has been decided that for the next three years CPIM’s main political strategy shall focus on how they can strengthen their fight against the BJP-RSS ideology and defeat them. He said, “Fight against the BJP-RSS ideology and defeat them is our main slogan and accordingly in whichever state the election comes, depending on the situation in that state we shall try to unite the anti BJP voters there and there is nothing new in it.”
Sarkar in presence of other senior CPIM MLAs including Tapan Chakraborty, Bhanulal Saha and Ratan Bhowmik during the press conference also raised the issues of increasing rape incidents in the state, police inaction and violence against Opposition including the Left and yesterday’s attack on Congress at Bishalghar.
