Agartala, June 23: Opposition Leader and CPIM state secretary Jitendra Choudhury has sharply criticized the BJP-led government in Tripura, alleging severe unemployment and a food crisis, particularly in rural areas, alongside a rapid deterioration in law and order following the recent Parliamentary election results.
During a press conference at the CPIM headquarters in Agartala on Sunday, Choudhury, a former MP, voiced these concerns. He was accompanied by other senior CPIM leaders, including former Deputy Speaker Pabitra Kar and MLA Sudhan Das.
The senior CPIM leader said that they had discussed the current socio-political situation during a state secretariat meeting of the party, and during which they expressed alarm over the declining law and order and the overall quality of public life in the state.
Choudhury highlighted the alarming unemployment rate in Tripura, criticizing the BJP-led government for not addressing numerous vacancies in various public sectors, opting instead for outsourcing or reemployment of retired personnel, which he deemed unjust to the unemployed youth.
He emphasized that the lack of work in rural and hilly regions has led to a severe food crisis, exacerbating large-scale migration from these areas as people seek jobs to support their families.
The CPIM leader pointed out that during last three years despite the government’s repeated announcements about recruitment, none of the processes have been completed.
He added that in several instances, examinations and interviews were conducted, but results were never published, while in others, recruitment notifications were canceled.
Choudhury attributed the soaring unemployment rate to the government’s negligence.
While acknowledging that it is unrealistic to expect the government to completely eliminate unemployment, Choudhury lamented that the limited opportunities available are being squandered by not filling vacant posts in the public sector.
He criticized the government’s approach of outsourcing and reemployment, arguing that it further reduces job opportunities for the youth.
Choudhury concluded by stating that these issues would be raised in the upcoming Assembly session.
He urged the government to explore ways to increase employment opportunities in both the public and private sectors.
