Agartala, March 21:In preparation for the upcoming parliamentary elections in West Tripura constituency, the election department conducted its first mock poll on Thursday at Sishu Bihar Higher Secondary School.
District Magistrate and Collector Vishal Kumar, also the Returning Officer of West Tripura parliamentary constituency, revealed that around 4000 personnel will undergo training in phases to ensure the smooth conduct of polling scheduled for April 19.
Kumar added that in parallel, the election department is bolstering security arrangements with the arrival of additional central paramilitary forces and more are expected before the polling day to ensure a secure environment for voters and polling staff.
During the mock poll, training sessions were conducted for poll officers focusing on managing polling stations and coordinating with security personnel.
Emphasis was placed on conducting elections efficiently, without delays or confusion.
Today’s training included handling postal ballots, and later these officials will also get training in operating Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT), vote counting procedures, and adhering to election protocols.
Mock polls serve the dual purpose of practice for officials and checking the functionality of EVMs to prevent technical issues during actual polling.
Trainees expressed satisfaction with the training, confident it would enable them to conduct elections fairly and smoothly.
As preparations intensify, the election department remains committed to facilitating a transparent and efficient electoral process in West Tripura constituency.
