Agartala, February 16:In a move aimed at enhancing the services offered through the public distribution system (PDS), the Tripura government unveiled a significant initiative on Friday. Building upon existing provisions for essential commodities like mustard oil, pulses, soybeans, rice, sugar, and kerosene, the government launched the inclusion of additional items ghee, curd, paneer, and ice cream in 15 fair price shops across the capital.
Led by Chief Minister Manik Saha, along with Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Cooperative Minister Sukla Charan Noatia, and Mayor Dipak Majumder, the launch event took place at a fair price shop in the Pragati Road area of the capital city, Agartala.
These new products are sourced from the state government’s Gomati Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Limited.
Initially implemented as a pilot project, the introduction of these new products will be rolled out in 15 fair price shops. Depending on market demand and feedback from consumers, the initiative will be expanded to cover other districts in the state.
This expansion of the PDS not only aims to make essential items more accessible to the public but also to bolster local production and create new employment opportunities.
By offering more products through fair price shops, residents will benefit from increased convenience and a broader range of locally sourced products available through the public distribution network.
