Agartala: Dec 18: The Assam Rifles played a heroic role in rescuing two individuals of Yannyu Village who were abducted by the NSCN-K Angmai faction. Based on input received from the sources, the Armed cadre group abducted two individuals named Mr Atua Konyak & Mr Tingkon Konyak from Yannyu village of Mon District on the intervening night of 15-16 December and were planning to take them across Indo Myanmar Border for Ransom money. A search and rescue operation was launched by Assam Rifles on 16th morning continuously tracking the armed cadres. On 17th December at 0900 A.M, in the Jungles of Nyasa & Wetting Village along the Indo Myanmar Border, the Armed cadres were spotted and on being challenged, the cadres opened fire on the troops of Assam Rifles. Assam Rifles troops retaliated in a controlled manner ensuring the safety of the abductees. The operation culminated in successful rescue of the two abductees, apprehension of One Guide and recovery of huge cache of war like stores viz 01 x M-16 Rifle, 03 Pistols and assorted ammunition and uniforms.
