Agartala, November 24: Atal Bihari Vajpayee Regional Cancer Center doctors in the state have successfully completed the first ‘Free Case of Fibula Microvascular Reconstruction of Mandible’ surgery.
Rita Tripura (26) a patient from South district was suffering from dental problem for 6-7 months. He came to Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital for outpatient treatment with swelling along with pain in the gums of the right lower jaw. Doctors then perform all necessary tests to diagnose the woman’s dental disease.
Odontogenic tumor of the patient’s teeth was detected by OPG X-ray and CECT examination. Then the histopathology report confirmed the matter and formed a medical team with expert doctors for this surgery.
The team consisted of Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital Dentistry Department Head of Office Dr. Kahamnuk Jamatia, Plastic Surgeon Dr. Pritam Das and Atal Bihari Vajpayee Regional Cancer Center Head of Neck Oncosurgeon Dr. Amlan Debbarma and Anesthesiologist Dr. Mrinal Debbarma.
Rogini was recently admitted to Atal Bihari Vajpayee Regional Cancer Center and underwent mandible resection and free fibula flap (bone of the leg) microvascular reconstruction surgery.
It may be noted that this is the first time such surgery has been done in the state. The patient was then shifted to the ICU. Later, as the patient’s condition gradually improved, he was discharged from the hospital on November 6, 2023. Relatives of the patient expressed their gratitude to the doctors of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Regional Cancer Center for the successful completion of the first jaw surgery in the state.
