Agartala, October 30 : Indo-Bangla rail connectivity took another step forward today. A cargo train from Bangladesh successfully arrived at Nishchinpur station in Tripura today on an experimental basis. As a result, the final phase of the Agartala-Akhaura rail project seems very near. Officials of Indian Railways claim that the project will be officially inaugurated on November 1. In the initial phase, goods trains from Bangladesh will come to Tripura on meter gauge line. On this day, it was noticed that there was a lot of excitement among the locals around the experimental train movement.
“The goods train has reached Nishchintapur from Gangasagar covering a distance over 8.1 kilometers. A six member of team was there in the train that had driven the train. The meter gauge portion has been opened for movement of goods”, Executive Engineer to the project Anindra Chowdhury has said. Loco pilot Abdur Rahim who had steered the train to Nishchintapur expressed his happiness for the success of the project and said, “This is the first railway connectivity between the Eastern side of Bangladesh with India. I am very happy to be a part of this historical moment”.
