Agartala, October 7: The Students Federation of India and the Tribal Students Union jointly organized a protest rally in Agartala on Saturday, voicing their opposition to the increasing privatization and commercialization of education.
The protest march commenced in the Paradise Chowmhuni area, winding its way through the streets of the capital city, eventually culminating in a sizable gathering of protesters in front of Shiksha Bhavan.
The demonstrators emphasized that education is a fundamental right and called for the preservation of government-controlled education, which has been gradually transitioning into private hands as both at the state and the central governments are encouraging it.
Slogans rang out denouncing the privatization and commercialization of schools, colleges, universities, and other educational institutions.
The protesters alleged that the commercialization of education is placing it out of the reach of ordinary citizens, particularly the underprivileged who cannot bear the associated costs.
Furthermore, their demands included a reduction in the escalating fees imposed on students, recruitment of more teachers, and an end to the divisive practices that segregate students along lines of caste, religion, and other factors, as such divisions are detrimental to the educational sector.
