Agartala, October 2: On the occasion of the 154th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, widely known as ‘Gandhi Jayanti,’ leaders from across the political spectrum in Tripura came together to pay their respects at Gandhighat in Agartala.
They emphasized that Mahatma Gandhi continues to be a symbol of hope for global equality and justice, and he played a pivotal role in India’s struggle for independence.
Minister Santana Chakma raised the national flag at Gandhighat and offered floral tributes.
She expressed her belief that India is progressing in line with Mahatma Gandhi’s ideology, which advocates non-violence and peace.
A commemorative event took place at Congress Bhavan, attended by prominent leaders, including Tripura’s Congress state president, Asish Kumar Saha, former Chief Minister Samir Ranjan Barman, Mahila Congress state president Sarbani Ghosh, and MLA Sudip Roy Barman, along with party members.
They paid their respects to Gandhi, often referred to as the Father of the Nation, who showcased the world the power of non-violence and vehemently opposed bloodshed.
A rally originating from Congress Bhavan culminated at Gandhighat, where Congress leaders also paid their tributes.
Asish Kumar Saha, speaking to reporters, emphasized that Gandhi’s ideology is particularly relevant today to unite the country’s people and counteract the divisive politics pursued by the ruling party for political gain.
Mahatma Gandhi, affectionately called Bapu, led numerous non-violent movements that ultimately led to India’s liberation from colonial rule and left an enduring impact on the lives of many.
