Agartala, September 10:In a world grappling with the mounting pressures of modern life, suicide has emerged as a pressing global public health concern, yielding profound repercussions on societal, emotional, and economic fronts.
Annually, over 700,000 lives are lost to suicide worldwide, affecting countless more individuals in its wake.
To combat this grim reality and foster awareness, the Tripura state chapter of the Indian Psychiatric Society organized a rally in Agartala on Sunday, coinciding with World Suicide Prevention Day’s global observance.
Large number of nursing students, various social groups, security forces, and medical professionals participated in the rally that started from Rabindra Bhavan area and went through the streets of the capital city.
The rally’s central objective was to aware on mental health issues, with a particular focus on the youth, emphasizing the existence of alternatives to suicide and the role of collective actions in nurturing hope and prevention.
Under the theme of ‘Creating Hope Through Action,’ World Suicide Prevention Day 2023 underscored the importance of signaling hope to those battling suicidal thoughts, affirming care and support for their well-being.
The message conveyed by the participants was that our actions, regardless of their scale, possess the potential to instill hope in those grappling with despair.
Furthermore, the organizers emphasized that suicide prevention deserves recognition as a paramount public health priority, urging immediate measures to curtail suicide mortality rates.
