Agartala, July 3: Pradyot Kishore Dev Burma, the chairman of TIPRA Motha, has stated that his party will not repeat the mistakes made by the IPFT when it failed to address the core issue of Tipraland after joining the government.
On his return after meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi, Pradyot, who is also the royal scion of Tripura, emphasized that TIPRA Motha will not join the government until the constitutional rights of the indigenous community are fulfilled.
Speaking to reporters at the MBB airport in Agartala on Monday, Pradyot was accompanied by several se
,nior leaders of his party, including Motha President Bijoy Kumar Hwrankhwal, Opposition Leader Animesh Debbarma, MLA Ranjit Debbarma, and Biswaketu Debbarma.
He emphasized that TIPRA Motha’s primary objective is to ensure the constitutional rights of the people, and until that goal is achieved, they are unwilling to be part of the government.
Regarding the proposal for a Uniform Civil Code in India, aimed at replacing personal laws based on religions, customs, and traditions with a common law for all citizens, Pradyot did not object but preferred to reserve his comments until the draft is published by the government.
He expressed hope that the proposed draft for the Uniform Civil Code will take care of the rights of women, indigenous people, and their customary laws.
