Agartala, June 23:
The Tripura government considers imparting quality education as one of its top priorities and allocates a significant budget for this purpose. However, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha expressed concern that a section of teachers in the state, instead of focusing on teaching in schools and educational institutions, are heavily involved in private tuition. This prevailing culture of private tuition adversely affects the overall results in government schools, adding extra pressure on students who struggle to find time for self-study, sports, and leisure activities at home. Additionally, it places an extra burden on parents.
The Chief Minister shared these views while addressing students of Maharani Tulsibati Girls’ H.S. School in Agartala on Friday.
In the presence of Saradindu Chowdhury, Secretary of the Department of Education, and other dignitaries, Dr Saha stated that the government is committed to strengthening the infrastructure for improving the education system, with a key focus on ensuring quality education for students’ bright futures. However, it has come to the government’s attention that some teachers are not dedicated to their duties and instead prioritize private tuition, charging exorbitant fees and that also deprive students of classroom learning.
The Chief Minister revealed that the education department has already identified certain teachers engaged in private tuition and has initiated strict actions against them.
Dr. Saha emphasized the importance of quality education rather than merely increasing the number of literacy rate, as pursued by the previous government.
During the event, the Chief Minister felicitated the students of Tulsibati Girls’ H.S. School who secured positions among the top ten students in the Class X and XII board examinations this year.
He also inaugurated the nursery class, Atal Tinkering Lab, and the Iron Removal and Drinking Water Purifier Plant in the school on the same day.
