The three-day Executive Committee Meeting of the India region zone III of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, specifically focused on the North-East (NE) region is starting from today and for which participants have already started reaching.
The gathering will take place in Agartala and was announced by Biswabandhu Sen, the Speaker of Tripura Legislative Assembly, during a press conference on Sunday.
Sen further stated that a total of 41 participants, including Speakers, Deputy Speakers, and Secretaries from eight states in the North-East region, are expected to attend the meeting, except the Speaker of Manipur due to the ongoing crisis.
The primary agenda of the meeting will revolve around the review of the Look East Policy, enhancing connectivity, developing infrastructure, addressing the issue of extremism, promoting people-to-people contact, and tackling the significant challenge of drug menace in the region.
The meeting will be presided over by Pasang Dorjee Sona, the Speaker of Arunachal Pradesh.
It is scheduled to take place on Monday noon in the Tripura Legislative Assembly.
Among the attendees of the press conference were Deputy Speaker Ram Prasad Paul, Chief Whip Kalyani Roy, and the Secretary of the Tripura Legislative Assembly.
It’s worth noting that the last Executive Committee Meeting of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association was held in Tripura in 2017.
During the current meeting, the members will also finalize the location for the upcoming executive meeting in this region.
