Council of Tiprasa Hoda, apex body of Tiprasa society, on Wednesday condemned and protested that the reported statement of Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha who during the recent BJP Karyakarni meeting at Charilam had asked the party leaders and supporters not to call or address Pradyot Kishore Debbarma as Maharaj or Bubagra.
The view of CM Dr Saha regarding Pradyot Kishore, chairman of the main opposition TIPRA Motha party was reported a day ago in a local daily and to which Debbarma had also reacted in the social media.
Now with the Council of Tiprasa Hoda raising it, the matter is turning into a big sensational issue especially among the indigenous community majority of whom consider Pradyot Kishore Debbarma as their king.
Debbarma at present is the head of the royal Manikya dynasty that ruled Tripura for several centuries until Tripura merged with India through signing if a merger treaty agreement between Kanchan Prabha Devi, the then Maharani Regent Tripura State and V.P. Menon, Advisor to the Government of India, Ministry of State on 9th September 1949.
The Council of Tiprasa Hoda said that as per the Article-Vi of the Merger Agreement Treaty, the Dominion government had guaranteed the succession according to law and custom to the gaddy in the State and to the Maharajas personal rights, privileges, dignities and titles, hence the Chief Minister must withdraw his words against Maharaja Pradyot Kishore.
The Council of Tiprasa Hoda said that they consider the disrespecting of their Maharaja as disrespecting the entire tribal community and so the CM should withdraw his statement and if not then they shall hit the streets with bigger agitation against it across the state.
