Agartala, May 19: Tripura State Electricity Corporation (TSECL) has submitted a tariff review petition to Tripura Power Regulatory Commission (TPRC) seeking hike in the power tariff to bridge up the revenue gaps, said a senior official.
In the petition, TSECL has elaborately explained the reason behind hike in the power tariff “increase in power purchase cost, natural gas, transmission cost, inflation over the past eight years and non-revenue expenditure”.
Besides, it also subsidy in power tariff for Greenland industries and other sectors have spiraled the buren for the power corporation.
As per the Central Electricity Act -2003, the organization and individuals are allowed to submit their representation till June 3 over the proposed power tariff before taking a final decision.
The revenue collection will be Rs. 868.04 crore for the current fiscal year while the revenue gas will stand at Rs. 1100.60 crore, said the official adding the regulatory body will decide the tariff keeping all aspects in mind.
It is to be noted that power tariff was hiked in 2014 last time and it was not revised during the BJP-IPFT regime fearing resentment among the consumers. Many say the populist move of the government has jeoparadised the TSECL’s fiscal health leading to accumulation of huge burden.
