The new executive committee of Twipra Students’ Federation (TSF) retreated its demand for implementation of Roman script for Kakborak and threatened to go for agitation across Tripura if their demands are not fulfilled.
The demand can only two days after TIPRA chairman Pradyot Kishore Debbarma had raised the issue and urged the tribal students to take initiatives to pressurise the government on it.
Speaking to reporters in Agartala, the TSF general secretary Hamalu Jamatia said that they demand that in CBSE and Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) in Kakborak examination students in addition to the option of answering in Bengali script should also have the option to write in Roman script.
He said that as majority of the Kokborok speaking population are in favour of the Roman script as they can express better and moreover appropriate phonetics and semantics of Kokborok language can be produced by using Roman scripts, though they are not against Bengali script. The tribal student organization demanded that the state CM and the government should take immediate action to ensure that in addition to Bengali script students are also allowed to reply in Roman script in CBSE and TBSE exams or they shall go for massive agitation across the state including capital Agartala for fulfilling their demand.
The TSF also demanded the shifting of the statute of Maharaja Bir Bikram from the old airport to the new airport terminal immediately.
