Agartala, May 29:
The Tripura government on Friday announced elaborate security and administrative arrangements for the NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination scheduled on June 21, even as the online admission process for undergraduate courses in government degree colleges across the state commenced from May 29.
Addressing a press conference at the Civil Secretariat in Agartala on Friday, Special Secretary of Higher Education Raval Hemendra Kumar said the NEET-UG re-examination would be conducted at 10 centres across Tripura under strict monitoring and multi-layer security arrangements.
He said nine examination centres have been set up in West Tripura district and one in Dhalai district at Kamalpur Government Degree College and Higher Secondary School.
Around 4,700 candidates are expected to appear in the examination, including nearly 4,500 in West Tripura district and around 200 at Kamalpur.
Kumar said the Higher Education Department, National Testing Agency (NTA), district administration and Tripura Police are working in close coordination to ensure free and fair conduct of the examination.
“As per NTA guidelines, State-Level and District-Level Coordination Committees have already been formed and regular review meetings are being held,” he said.
The centres in West Tripura include Maharaja Bir Bikram College, BBM College, Kendriya Vidyalaya Kunjaban, Kendriya Vidyalaya ONGC Agartala, Hindi Higher Secondary School, Maharani Tulsibati Girls’ School, Shishu Bihar School, Tripura University and NIT Agartala.
He added that all centres have undergone verification and security assessment before finalisation and that only government institutions, including NIT Agartala and ICFAI University, have been selected as examination venues.
The Special Secretary said a dual-layer frisking system would be enforced at all centres. While Tripura Police personnel will conduct the first level of checking outside the centres, NTA screening teams will carry out additional verification inside.
“All examination centres will remain under CCTV surveillance and live monitoring. Strict legal action will be taken against any attempt at malpractice,” Kumar warned.
Superintendent of Police West Tripura district Namit Pathak also spoke on the security arrangements for a free and fair examination.
Candidates have been advised not to carry prohibited items such as mobile phones and personal pens inside examination halls and to report well before the scheduled time mentioned on admit cards.
Meanwhile, Director of Higher Education Animesh Debbarma announced that the online admission process for undergraduate courses in 29 government degree colleges, including the newly established Nalchar Government Women’s Degree College, has started through the SAMARTH portal.
Debbarma said online applications will continue till June 7 midnight and no offline applications will be accepted.
He informed that the total intake capacity in government degree colleges and teacher education institutes has increased to 32,159 seats this year, which is higher than the estimated number of students passing Higher Secondary examinations in the state.
“More than the required number of seats are available across government colleges in Tripura. Students should focus on their preferred subjects rather than only a few colleges,” Debbarma said.
He said the first merit list will be published on June 19, followed by multiple rounds of admissions till July 6.
The Higher Education Director also announced the introduction of a new B.Sc Computer Science programme at IASE Kunjaban with an intake capacity of 30 students as part of the implementation of NEP 2020 guidelines.
