Agartala, May 17:
Launching a sharp attack on the BJP-led Central government, Congress MLA Roy Barman on Sunday alleged that the country’s economy had been pushed into a crisis under Prime Minister Narendra Modi while corruption, unemployment, price rise and examination scams were destroying the future of the youth.
Roy Barman, also a former Minister, made the remarks while addressing reporters in Agartala on the sidelines of the first State Executive meeting of the Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress.
Several Congress and Youth Congress leaders including national president of Indian Youth Congress Uday Bhanu Chib, national in-charge Manish Sharma, state president of Tripura Pradesh Congress Asish Kumar Saha also participated in the programme.
The Congress MLA alleged that India, once regarded as one of the emerging global economic powers, was now witnessing widening inequality between the rich and the poor under the BJP regime.
He claimed that crony capitalists were “running the show” while ordinary citizens were being pushed deeper into debt and economic hardship.
Claiming that the country’s debt burden had increased drastically over the last decade, Roy Barman alleged that corruption was at its peak and public money was being looted.
He further said the unprecedented rise in prices of essential commodities had made survival difficult for common people.
“The poor and middle-class families are the worst sufferers. Essential commodities are now beyond the reach of ordinary citizens while a handful of crony capitalists are benefiting,” he alleged.
The former Minister also targeted the BJP government over repeated examination paper leak controversies across the country, alleging that the future of students and unemployed youths was being “sold for money”.
Referring to the NEET controversy and several recruitment examination leaks, Roy Barman claimed that question paper leak incidents had repeatedly surfaced during the BJP rule, particularly in states governed by the saffron party.
“The BJP has no value for merit. They are trying to make undeserving people doctors and professionals in exchange for money. Even the talent and merit of students are being sold,” he alleged.
Questioning the effectiveness of central investigations into examination scams, Roy Barman said although agencies like the CBI were brought in, the “real masterminds” behind the rackets were never exposed.
He alleged that arrests were often made only for “showmanship” while the actual network behind the scams remained untouched.
The Congress leader further warned that repeated examination irregularities were creating deep uncertainty among unemployed youths and students across the country.
Calling for mass democratic movements, Roy Barman urged the youth not to remain silent against corruption and unemployment.
“Come out on the streets and organise movements. Do not sit quietly while the future of the country is being destroyed,” he appealed.
