Agartala, March 29: Tripura’s grassroots development initiatives received national recognition after Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted key success stories from the state during the March edition of Mann Ki Baat, prompting Chief Minister Manik Saha to express gratitude and call it a moment of pride for the state.
Addressing reporters after attending a community broadcast programme in Agartala, Saha said the Prime Minister’s mention of Tripura’s progress under the Jal Jeevan Mission and rural electrification initiatives reflects the state’s steady transformation.
He noted that one of the key highlights was the innovative approach adopted in remote areas like Vangmun in Jampui Hills under North Tripura district, where long-standing drinking water issues have been addressed through alternative sourcing and distribution systems.
The model involves harnessing natural stream water, purifying it, and pumping it to elevated regions for household supply—an approach now being replicated in other difficult terrains.
The Chief Minister said Tripura has significantly expanded its coverage under the mission—from around 3 percent in 2018 to nearly 85–86 percent at present—with efforts underway to achieve full saturation in the coming days despite geographical constraints.
Saha also pointed to the impact of the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, particularly among Reang refugee settlements, where access to non-conventional electricity has begun to transform daily life.
Improved lighting has enabled children to study at night while also supporting small-scale agricultural activities, he said.
Describing Mann Ki Baat as a platform that brings forward local innovations and success stories from across the country, Saha said the programme continues to inspire citizens by showcasing achievements in sectors ranging from agriculture and fisheries to sports and public health.
He further highlighted the Prime Minister’s emphasis on fitness and disciplined living, noting that such messages resonate strongly with the youth and contribute to broader social awareness.
Touching upon global developments, Saha said India’s diplomatic outreach under Modi has ensured stability in critical sectors such as energy supply, even amid tensions in West Asia.
He asserted that strong international relations have helped safeguard the country’s interests, adding that “India remains in safe hands under the Prime Minister’s leadership.”
Reiterating the state’s commitment to the national vision of a developed India by 2047, Saha said Tripura is working in tandem with that goal, leveraging innovation and inclusive development to accelerate progress across sectors.
He also underlined the state’s active participation in Mann Ki Baat outreach programmes, stating that despite its size, Tripura has consistently ranked among the top states in organising listening events, reflecting widespread public engagement and unity across communities.
