Agartala, February 23:
With a new elected government in Bangladesh after around one-and-a-half years, visa services at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala resumed on Monday that remained suspended for nearly two months, offering much-needed relief to hundreds of applicants eager to travel across the border.
The reopening witnessed heavy footfall with long queues forming outside the visa section as fresh applicants gathered to submit their documents.
Although visa applications are officially accepted ,
The overwhelming rush resulted in many applicants being unable to file their forms within the designated hours between 9:00 AM and 12:00 noon.
Visa and consular services had been suspended indefinitely from December 23, 2025. A notice signed by the then Head of Mission and First Secretary, S M Almas Hossain issued on December 22, 2025, cited unavoidable circumstances for the temporary closure.
The abrupt halt in services had caused considerable inconvenience, particularly for individuals with family ties and business engagements in Bangladesh.
With the restoration of visa processing, normal cross-border movement is expected to gradually resume, bringing relief to families and travellers affected by the prolonged suspension.
The development is likely to further strengthen people-to-people connectivity between the two neighbouring countries.
