Agartala, December 19:
Amid heightened tensions in neighbouring Bangladesh, senior officials of the Indian Army, Assam Rifles and the Border Security Force (BSF) on Friday visited the Indo-Bangladesh international border in Belonia sub-division of Tripura’s South District to review the prevailing security situation.
According to official social media handle of the Eastern Command of Indian Army, Lieutenant General RC Tiwari, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C), Eastern Command, accompanied by senior military officers, visited a Border Outpost in Belonia to assess operational preparedness and ground-level security arrangements along the vulnerable border stretch.
During the visit, Lt Gen Tiwari interacted with troops deployed in forward areas and reviewed their readiness to deal with any emerging challenges.
He also commended personnel of the Indian Army, Assam Rifles and BSF for their professionalism, alertness and high state of operational readiness.
“Army CdrEC lauded all ranks for their dedication and preparedness in safeguarding the nation’s borders,” the Eastern Command said in an official social media post.
The visit assumes added significance in the backdrop of recent developments in Bangladesh and reported remarks by National Citizen Party (NCP) leader Hasnat Abdullah, who allegedly warned of isolating India’s northeastern region—popularly known as the Seven Sisters—and offering shelter to separatist groups accused of attempting to destabilise Bangladesh.
Security agencies in Tripura have remained on high alert, particularly along sensitive border areas, as authorities continue to closely monitor the evolving situation in the neighbouring country.
Tripura shares an 856-km-long international border with Bangladesh, a substantial portion of which remains unfenced, making the region strategically sensitive from a security perspective.
