Agartala, December 10:
In a major political development, a senior Congress leader Chandrashekhar Sinha had filed a written complaint at Kailashahar Police Station in Unakoti district against Tripura Minister and BJP MLA Tinku Roy, accusing him of submitting forged educational certificates and concealing material facts in his election affidavits.
The complaint filed on Tuesday alleges that Roy, who currently represents the Chandipur Assembly constituency, falsely claimed in his nomination affidavits during both the 2018 and 2023 Assembly elections that he had passed the Class XII examination in 2004 from a board based in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. According to the complainant, the said education board is fake and non-existent, rendering the certificates submitted by the Minister forged and invalid.
Addressing a press conference at the Kailashahar Congress Bhavan the senior Congress leader and Tripura High Court advocate Nar Singh Das said the allegations were backed by documentary details.
Advocate Das further claimed that in a separate case, a subsequent CBI investigation had also identified the same education board as fake.
The complaint also accuses the Minister of suppressing information related to a criminal case.
Advocate Das stated that Roy had declared in his affidavit that no criminal cases were pending against him, despite a criminal case allegedly registered at West Agartala Police Station. The complaint reportedly includes the case number and detailed particulars.
Earlier in the day, a Congress delegation led by Kailashahar MLA Birajit Sinha, and comprising Unakoti District Congress president Md. Badruzzaman, advocate Nar Singh Das, complainant Chandrashekhar Sinha, Rudrendu Bhattacharjee, and other party leaders, submitted the complaint to Kailashahar police. The complaint was received by Officer-in-Charge Tapas Malakar, following which the Congress leaders obtained an official acknowledgment.
Terming the alleged submission of fake educational certificates and suppression of material information in election affidavits as “serious and condemnable offences,” advocate Nar Singh Das demanded a thorough investigation and appropriate legal action against the minister.
Chandrashekhar Sinha is known to be a close associate of Kailashahar MLA Birajit Sinha. The filing of the police complaint against the sitting BJP Minister has sharply escalated political tensions in Kailashahar and the surrounding areas.
Meanwhile, when approached for his response to the incident, Minister Tinku Roy declined to comment, stating that since the Congress party had filed the case, queries should be directed to them.
