Agartala, December 6:
Two minors from the Putia border area in Sepahijala district of Tripura were brought to Bishalgarh Subdivision Hospital with multiple injuries on Saturday, reportedly caused by firing from Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, a senior health department official said.
Both children were later referred to the Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GBP Hospital for advanced treatment.
Dr. Arijit Sinha, Sub-Divisional Medical Officer (SDMO) of Bishalgarh, confirmed that the two injured minors were brought to the hospital separately. “What has been known so far is that they were most likely hit by BSF firing,” he said.
Both children sustained multiple injuries on their bodies and heads allegedly when they were trying to do some illegal activities in the border.
The SDMO also stated that although the condition of both minors is currently stable, they were shifted to the state’s premier referral hospital due to the seriousness of the injuries.
“The injuries suggest that rubber bullets were used, as there are no penetrations but clear impact marks. Considering the nature of their wounds, the attending medical officer referred them to AGMC for specialised care,” Dr. Sinha added.
However, there has been no official communication regarding the incident from BSF.
Tripura shares an 856-km-long international border with Bangladesh, over 95 percent of which is fenced and guarded by around 18 battalions of the BSF.
Despite enhanced vigilance and a significant reduction in cross-border crimes in recent years, smuggling, trafficking, and other illegal activities remain persistent challenges along the frontier.
