Agartala: Jan 19: A colorful procession was organized in Agartala on the occasion of 45th Kokborok Day which is celebrated in Tripura for recognizing the tribal language beside promote and preserve it.
The procession was organised by the state government’s Kakborak and Minority Languages department that is responsible for promoting and encouraging various ethnic minority languages.
Along with senior officials from various departments, hundreds of tribal youths from various schools, colleges and social organizations in their indigenous attire and jewellery took part in the procession that started from the Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan and went through the streets of the capital city.
Kokborak got recognition as an official language in the year 1979 but is yet to have its script.The government is of the view that a section of the Kokborok speaking is in favour of Bengali while the other wants Roman script.
Earlier during the Left Front regime two committees were formed to find a solution to the Kokborok script issue but the government did not make it public or accepted the suggestion.
