Agartala, August 22:
Tripura on Friday became the first state in the Northeast to launch a long-term development roadmap as Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha unveiled the ‘Vikshit Tripura 2047’ Vision Document at Pragya Bhavan in Agartala.
The document aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Vikshit Bharat 2047’ mission, setting goals for economic growth, social empowerment, and sustainable development over the next two decades.
Speaking at the launch, Dr. Saha said that like the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, ‘Atmanirbhar Tripura’ is the state’s guiding mantra.
“Through combined efforts, we want to make every citizen self-reliant. By innovation and local empowerment, Tripura will contribute to India’s leadership in artificial intelligence, space exploration, biotechnology, and renewable energy,” he said.
The Chief Minister added that efforts are underway to export value-added products to South Asian markets including Bangladesh, while adopting a ‘Vocal for Local’ strategy to promote and prioritize homegrown products.
Highlighting progress, Dr. Saha said that in 2023-24, Tripura’s GSDP grew by 14.21%, the second highest among northeastern states, while the state also secured the second position in per capita income in the region. Since 2018, his government has provided 19,742 government jobs, alongside expanding opportunities through outsourcing and self-employment.
Tripura has also achieved notable milestones in governance and social development. The state became the third in India after Goa and Mizoram to achieve full literacy, with its literacy rate rising to 95.6% under the ULLAS – New India Literacy Programme. It also became the first state in the country to introduce the e-office system up to gram panchayat level, ensuring transparency in administration.
Under Chief Minister’s Jan Arogya Yojana (CM-JAY), 4.26 lakh families, including those not covered under PM-JAY, now have health insurance coverage of ₹5 lakh each. Over 8,000 patients have already benefited from free treatment. Tap water supply has expanded from just 3% households to 86%, with cent percent coverage expected by next year.
The Chief Minister further highlighted the role of women in the state’s economy, noting that among six lakh self-help group members, over 1.08 lakh women have emerged as ‘Lakhpati Didis’, inspiring others with sustainable livelihood practices.
Finance and Planning Minister Pranajit Singha Roy said the roadmap is focused on uplifting the poor, women, youth, and farmers, while ensuring good governance and investor-friendly policies.
With 14 lakh farmers, expanding markets under the Act East Policy, and reforms in ease of doing business, Dr. Saha said the vision aims to make Tripura a frontrunner state and a key contributor to India’s aspiration of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
