Agartala: May 16: TET job aspirants in Tripura staged a protest on Monday by gheraoing the residence of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, demanding the immediate publication of long-pending exam results. The protest, however, took a dramatic turn when police detained the demonstrators, citing lack of prior permission for the gathering.
The group, comprising candidates of both TET-1 and TET-2, claimed they had approached the Teachers Recruitment Board, Tripura (TRBT) multiple times without receiving any concrete response. Earlier in the day, many had gathered outside Shiksha Bhavan, where they attempted to meet the TRBT Chairman, but were reportedly turned away.
“We have waited long enough. The examination process was completed quite some time ago, yet the results have not been released. We came to meet the Chief Minister directly, hoping he would intervene and expedite the process,” said one of the protestors.
Aspirants from across the state, many of them unemployed youth, participated in the demonstration, expressing deep frustration over the prolonged delays and lack of communication from the recruitment authorities. They hoped that direct action would help draw the government’s attention to their plight.
However, the protestors were stopped by police at the Chief Minister’s residence. Additional Superintendent of Police, West Tripura, Dhruba Nath, confirmed that the demonstrators had not obtained prior permission for the gathering. “Since the group assembled without official approval, around 20 of them were detained and transported to the Edinagar Police Line in a police van,” he stated.
The incident underscores the growing unrest among job seekers in the state’s education sector. Aspirants now await a response from the government, hoping their demands for timely recruitment and transparency will be addressed soon.
