Marking the sacred festival of Eid-ul-Zuha, also known as Bakri Eid or Eid al-Adha, thousands of Muslims from across Tripura assembled at Gedu Mia mosque in Agartala on Saturday morning to offer special Eid prayers.
Gedu Mia mosque, one of the oldest in the state, witnessed a massive turnout as devotees came together to celebrate one of the most significant festivals in the Islamic calendar.
The prayer session commenced with Maulana Abdul Rehaman, the Imam of the mosque, who read out special prayers for global peace and prosperity.
In his sermon, Maulana Rehaman highlighted the true essence of Eid-ul-Zuha, saying, “Eid al-Adha is not just about animal sacrifice. One must also sacrifice pride, hatred, and evil from within. That is the true devotion to Allah.”
He also prayed for unity, good health, and happiness among all communities in the state and the country, emphasizing social harmony and inclusive development for all.
“Every religion teaches unity and fraternity. It is our collective duty to uphold these values and move forward together,” he added.
The festival, which commemorates the unwavering devotion of Prophet Ibrahim who was ready to sacrifice his son following divine instructions, is observed with great reverence worldwide.
Families capable of doing so sacrifice animals as prescribed in the Holy Quran— often goats or other animals — and distribute the meat among the poor, relatives, and friends. Donations are also made to charitable institutions, including orphanages and elderly homes.
The celebrations were filled with messages of love and compassion, as people embraced each other and exchanged greetings of peace, symbolizing the spirit of togetherness that transcends religious boundaries.
