Agartala, May 16: Following its remarkable strides in digital connectivity and e-governance, Tripura is now charting a new course—towards becoming a national leader in Artificial Intelligence (AI) integration for public service delivery.
At a high-level workshop held at Pragya Bhavan in Agartala, Tripura’s Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha underscored the transformative impact of digital technologies in Tripura, noting that tools such as e-Hospital software, e-Energy Billing systems, and the state’s video conferencing platform have helped bring governance even to the most remote corners of the state.
“Transparency, efficiency, and accountability are being driven by digital transformation,” said Sinha. “AI, which seems like a marvel today, will soon be a necessity. Tripura must be ready to lead.”
Highlighting the state’s early adoption of digital systems—dating back to 2003—Sinha emphasized that AI can now enhance this legacy by minimizing administrative gaps, increasing productivity, and building institutional trust.
The workshop, organized by the Directorate of Information Technology in collaboration with the National e-Governance Division (NeGD) and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), showcased the state’s ambition to build a tech-enabled governance ecosystem.
Secretary of the Information Technology Department, Kiren Gitte, announced several initiatives to bolster this vision, including the creation of new posts and the construction of dedicated IT infrastructures.
He also unveiled plans for a single-window digital system to streamline citizen access to public services.
“Tripura’s digital infrastructure is ready for the next leap. AI will enable data-driven decision-making, reduce manual interventions, and usher in predictive governance,” Gitte said, emphasizing that responsiveness and impact would be at the core of these reforms.
The workshop also served as a platform to initiate department-specific pilot projects using AI and promote capacity-building among officials, laying the groundwork for future-ready public administration.
