Agartala, May 7 — A large-scale civil defense mock drill was conducted across all eight districts of Tripura at 3:30 PM today, in alignment with a nationwide emergency preparedness exercise. In Agartala, the main drill took place at Umakanta School, showcasing critical emergency response measures.
As part of the drill, sirens were sounded near the Chief Minister’s residence, simulating an emergency alert. To ensure realism and coordination, electricity in Agartala will be briefly suspended from 5:30 PM to 5:40 PM, as per a public notice issued by Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL).
The drill aimed to evaluate the state’s readiness in managing potential threats such as enemy attacks, natural disasters, or man-made crises. Key components of the exercise included testing alert systems, evacuation protocols, emergency medical response, rescue operations, and restoration of essential services.
The exercise was led by each district’s Disaster Management Authority and Civil Defense Corps, with active support from Tripura Police, Fire & Emergency Services, medical teams, and various volunteer groups.
Dr. Vishal Kumar, District Magistrate of West Tripura, confirmed the Agartala drill was executed at Umakanta School with participation from NCC cadets, Tripura State Rifles (TSR), Home Guards, Apada Mitra volunteers, and other emergency responders. The simulation will continue until 6:30 PM, with sirens scheduled at 4:00 PM and 5:30 PM to mark different stages of the drill.
Authorities urged citizens to remain calm and cooperative, clarifying that the drill is a precautionary and training-oriented exercise. The initiative is a vital part of strengthening the state’s ability to respond swiftly and effectively during real emergencies.
