Agartala: April 24: In the aftermath of the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, the grim reality of ongoing terrorist activity continues to challenge the government’s narrative of peace and progress. Despite repeated claims of normalization and security, recent events reveal a disturbing persistence of violence in the region.
Former Chief Minister of Tripura and Politburo member, Manik Sarkar, has strongly criticized the central government, accusing it of gross negligence and failure to ensure the safety of citizens and tourists alike. In the wake of the recent militant attack in Pahalgam, which has reportedly claimed the lives of 28 innocent people and left 20 others seriously injured, Sarkar condemned the act as barbaric and inhumane.
He emphasized that such horrific incidents reflect a serious lapse in security and governance, questioning the government’s repeated assertions that terrorism had been eliminated following the revocation of Article 370. Highlighting the recurrence of attacks on security personnel and civilians, he asserted that the government’s focus appears to be more on political maneuvering than on ensuring public safety.
Sarkar demanded that the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack be identified swiftly and subjected to exemplary punishment, serving as a deterrent against future violence. He also urged the government to provide immediate and sustained support—both financial and emotional—to the families of the victims.
Furthermore, he called on all democratic forces and the international community to stand united against terrorism and hold governments accountable for lapses that endanger the lives of innocent people. The need of the hour, he stressed, is not just to condemn terrorism, but to adopt a people-centric approach that genuinely prioritizes peace, justice, and security in the region.
